What does metaphysical mean?

The word metaphysical comes from the Greek meta ta physika, meaning "after the physical" or "beyond nature." In philosophy, metaphysics is the branch that deals with questions science can't fully answer: What is consciousness? What is reality? What is energy?

In the crystal world, metaphysical is shorthand for anything related to a crystal's energetic, spiritual, or emotional properties, as opposed to its purely geological ones. When someone says a crystal has metaphysical properties, they mean it's believed to influence energy, emotion, intention, or spiritual experience in ways that go beyond what you can see under a microscope.
